My final weight isn’t the ultimate determining factor of my success, as I will be adding muscle in place of fat. However, I will be shooting for losing around 25-30 pounds of fat. The ultimate goal and indicator of success for me is to lose my gut and drop my waist size to around 32 inches, which is about normal for my height/build.

My plan is to “diet” until I reach my target weight, then transition to a more sustainable, maintainable lifestyle. However, my idea of a diet isn’t Atkins, or South Beach, or Weight Watchers. It’s simply to take in fewer calories than I expend each day, while keeping a healthy balance of protein, fats, and carbs. During the “diet” phase, I will be extra careful about what I eat. Low calorie (and low sugar, low fat, low carb) is the name of the game.
I don’t know how long the diet phase will last. I’m thinking it will take 9-12 weeks. That’s just a guess based on losing 2-3 pounds a week (which is considered a healthy goal). If I am hardcore about it, that time could drop by a few weeks. We’ll see!
